Kalonzo Musyoka To Preside Over UTAMU’s 2nd Graduation Ceremony

Kenyan former Vice President Hon. Dr. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka is set to award degrees to successful students at the second graduation ceremony of Uganda Technology and Management University (UTAMU).

Musyoka is the University Chancellor of UTAMU and is expected to arrive in Uganda on Thursday, 29th September 2016 ahead of the graduation.

Uganda Technology and Management University (UTAMU) will hold its second graduation this Friday, 30th September 2016 at Silver Springs Hotel in Kampala.

The Chief Guest at the ceremony is the State Minister for Higher Education, Hon. Dr. John Chrysostom Muyingo as confirmed by the University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Benon Basheka.

This graduation will be a major milestone for UTAMU as their pioneer undergraduate students receive their degrees and diplomas since its inception in 2012.

According to Prof. Basheka, UTAMU graduates are problem solvers in different disciplines and will make a positive impact in the society.

“UTAMU has surely moved from its infancy, and has reached maturity level. It is moving in steadily in the right direction. We are confident of the quality systems through which our graduates have passed through,” Prof. Basheka said.

In less than four years of operation, UTAMU is already at a level of competing favorably with older universities.

UTAMU was recently recognized and awarded as the best university in Uganda that uses digital education.

The university has been the first university in the country to fully integrate the use of blended learning technologies in university education.

“This is attributed to our unique and innovative teaching and learning models. We are the first university in the country that fully integrates the use of blended learning technologies in the university education,” said Prof. Jude Lubega, the Deputy Vice Chancellor and a professor of Computer Science.

UTAMU officially opened its doors to students on 7th September 2012 with intent to improve higher education in the region and has undoubtedly been growing to be one of the best universities in the region.

The university, which started with only five undergraduate programmes, now boasts of more than 40 programmes at both undergraduate and post graduate levels.

These programmes are all accredited by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE). UTAMUalso runs a PhD programme in seven disciplines with Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST). This program has been a success!

From almost a staff number of less than 10 in 2012, the university now employees more than 100 well experienced academic and administrative staffs.

From no student as of 2012 on inception, the university now has over 1000 students. While most students are in country students, there is a positive trend in attracting regional and international students.

Last year, over 80 graduands received degrees and post graduate diplomas in different programmes in the School of Business and Management.

This year, gradaunds are at both post graduate and undergraduate levels.
