Police in Gulu is holding a 38-year old man netted with counterfeit bank notes totaling to UGX 200m. Police also discovered chemicals used in publishing fake notes.
Daniel Bataganya, a resident of Jinja town was arrested after a tip off from a resident Jackson Odong whom he asked to invest UGX 50m so that they manufacture for him bank notes worth UGX 200m.
Odong reported the matter after realising that he was dealing with a conman.
Bataganya who also claimed to be working with Uganda Red Cross Society as a driver is still at Gulu central Police station awaiting trial.
Patrick Jimmy Okema, the police spokesperson for Aswa region told journalists that they have sent the fake bank notes to Bank of Uganda for verification after which Bataganya will be arraigned in Court.
