The statement clarified that the faction’s aim is to restore the core values of Democratic Party, address the challenges of the day and come up with meaningful party programs and put in place frame work to take manage and sustain national leadership.

The faction reiterated its continued support for DP but also accused the delegate’s conference of failure to roll out party program “to take the party ahead in preparation to capture national leadership than verbal attacks aimed at creating hatred against the Baganda.”

Mao frustrates dialogue

The faction also accused Mao and his team of frustrating party dialogue.

“He (Mao) instead launched verbal tribal attacks against fellow leaders. He went ahead to organize delegate’s conference against the advice of NEC and elders in which he was elected party president.”

However, during his address to the National Delegate’s conference on Friday last week, Mao said that Lukwago faction has failed to embrace dialogue.

“Instead of embracing our dialogue initiatives, our colleagues have remained extremely adamant and unreasonable. They have incited violence leading to attacks on the party national headquarters. They have continued to abuse, malign and demonize my leadership team,” Mao said.
