DEFIANT! Kagina Rejects AG Orders To Pay Shs46bn Compensation

By Serestino Tusingwire

Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) Executive Director Allen Kagina has said that she will not heed to the orders of the Attorney General to pay shs46 billion to an engineering firm and Moroto local government.

Kagina said that UNRA was not party to a suit under which the engineering firm Welt Machinen sued China Road and Bridge Corporation for mining its rock.

The Attorney General’s office had issued several orders to UNRA to pay Shs46bn to the firm.

This cost is a result of a contested court settlement awarding costs against a Chinese firm hired by government to construct the Moroto-Nakapiripirit road after it encroached on a rock belonging to Welt Machine and the local government.

UNRA is currently facing a lot of difficulties under the new leadership of Allen Kagina having inherited a corruption-prone leadership of the authority.
