A total of 12 Chinese companies including the China Communications Construction Limited which was contracted to construct the four-lane 51.4 kilometre Kampala-Entebbe have been included on a World Bank blacklist due to their suspected involvement in fraud and corruption.The World Bank recently released a list of companies which are prohibited to undertake World Bank-financed contracts for periods ranging from two to eight years as they have been sanctioned under the bank’s fraud and corruption policy.
The chinese company In 2009 was stopped by the Bretton Woods Institution which funds an number of development projects in Africa from taking part in any road and bridge projects financed by the World Bank.
The Government has however argued that this particular company is different from the one that was blacklisted by the Britton woods institution. Officials from China Communications Construction Company Ltd were not available to comment about the issue.
